Physical Demands

Director will work in office environment; sitting and standing regularly. Depending on creative experience, may spend time in the field on photo and video shoots, working with talent, traveling campus, etc. Some lifting required.

Job Summary

The Director directs and supervises the Creative Services office and its activities, designs and deploys the office’s project management process and system, and keeps creative projects on time and on budget. Additionally, they work daily to advance understanding of UNC in the broader marketplace and community, on campus and off, through their efforts. The Director represents the office and its work to clients and partners and, as second in command of the Marketing, Creative Services and Web office, stands in for the Assistant Vice President of Marketing, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience designing, leading and launching complicated, trackable and highly creative marketing campaigns across a variety of mediums and platforms.
• Demonstrated experience supporting and inspiring a team of creative professionals working in a wide variety of forms and disciplines (including social media, marketing, web development, and event design)
• Direct client services experience, including with not-for-profit clients/partners
• Fluency in the Adobe Design suite
• Strong familiarity with project management best practices and tools such as Basecamp and Trello
• Possession of an individual creative super power (or two), whether in design, writing, event planning, painting, photography, sculpture, music, dance or other fields
• Passion for people, collaboration and the life- and society-enhancing mission of higher education

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree (MFA preferred)
• Agency and/or freelance experience in a B-to-C capacity
• Active engagement in professional organizations in the field
• Higher education creative services experience

Salary and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed as 0.5 FTE or above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Additional Requirements

Satisfactory completion of a background check, educational check, and authorization to work in the United States is required after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The successful candidate must submit original transcripts within one (1) month of hire.
