Job Summary

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO is seeking a Hansen Professional in Residence beginning fall semester 2018. This is an endowed position, named in honor of Mildred Hansen, former publisher of the Greeley Tribune. The person filling the position will teach courses in digital video production, social media applications, website design, with studio production a particular need at this time. Other courses appropriate for their background may also be taught. There may be opportunity to create courses not yet offered by the program. Teaching load is four courses per academic year. Service is a large part of the workload. We want someone who will conduct outreach to high schools and community colleges, mentor current students, and develop enrichment programming (e.g. guest speakers, symposia, etc.) The position is a one-year non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of renewal for a maximum of two additional years.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field closely related to the subjects to be taught and a minimum of five years of successful professional experience in one or more of the following areas required: multi-media editing and design, field and/or studio video production, news reporting or producing for print, online, or broadcast organizations. Demonstrated ability and desire to actively mentor and work with students from all journalism areas required.

Preferred Qualifications

The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who understand/have experience with today’s cross-media environment. Ideal candidate would be nationally or regionally recognized and would be familiar with professional media outlets in Colorado. College teaching experience preferred. Terminal degree in a field closely related to the subjects to be taught preferred.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed as 0.5 FTE or above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Additional Requirements

Satisfactory completion of a background check, educational check, and authorization to work in the United States is required after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The successful candidate must submit original transcripts within one (1) month of hire.
