Job Summary

Visiting Assistant Professor, nine month appointment, in the School of Mathematical Sciences, non-tenure-track. Full-time load consists of nine hours of teaching per semester in addition to research and service. Primary teaching responsibilities may include courses in graduate mathematics education, pre-service elementary or secondary mathematics, and undergraduate mathematics content. We offer opportunities to collaborate with a collegial group of mathematics education researchers and mathematicians, as well as graduate students in mathematics education. The School of Mathematical Sciences has a doctoral program in Educational Mathematics and a master’s program in mathematics for secondary teachers.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in Mathematics Education with graduate coursework in mathematics or Doctorate in Mathematics with demonstrable achievement in mathematics education research. ABD will be considered provided that the dissertation has been successfully defended by the starting date. Evidence of effective teaching and potential for research in mathematics education.

Preferred Qualifications

Research interests in undergraduate and/or secondary mathematics education.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed as 0.5 FTE or above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Additional Requirements

Satisfactory completion of a background check, educational check, and authorization to work in the United States is required after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The successful candidate must submit original transcripts within one (1) month of hire.
